Army seizes truckload of military equipment

BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army said Tuesday it had confiscated a truck loaded with military gear, hand grenades and communication devices in east Lebanon. The Army added that it had arrested five Syrians found inside the vehicle. In a statement issued Tuesday, the military said intelligence agents seized the pickup truck near the Al-Qaa border crossing Monday evening. It said the Army arrested the Lebanese driver and five Syrian nationals – with no legal residency permits – inside the truck after trying to avoid a General Security checkpoint at the crossing. “A quantity of military gear, binoculars, hand grenades and communication devices were seized” from the truck, the statement added. The Lebanese military added that the detainees had been taken to the relevant authorities for interrogation.
