BEIRUT: Director-General of the Education Ministry Fadi Yaraq said Wednesday that the newly introduced project Citizenship Education would strengthen coexistence among the country’s different groups, the Central News Agency reported. Yaraq was speaking during a ceremony to launch the project, which is part of the EU- funded program “Support to the Lebanese Education Reform.” EU representative Paula Martinez said that “during the coming three years, the Citizenship Education project will provide support to the Education Ministry in its efforts to develop a new educational approach on citizenship.” Head of the Education Center for Research and Development Layla Fayyad stressed in a statement that educating children on citizenship starts by giving them hope and ambition and strengthens their national self-image. The project will teach children about responsibility and national values such as tolerance and cooperation, the statement added.
