BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army said it detained two people for possession of arms in Baalbek Sunday, adding that it came under fire during a separate raid in the region.
“In the framework of its anti-smuggling operations along the border, the Army detained a man in Labweh wanted for several arrest warrants Sunday, who was accompanied by another man [at the time],” a statement issued by the military said.
The military confiscated medium sized weaponry and ammunition found in the two men’s car. They were handed over to concerned authority.
Separately, the Army said a military unit was shot at during a raid to capture a man in Sharawna in Baalbek, prompting soldiers to respond to the sources of fire.
“[The Army] is conducting wide raids to apprehend the perpetrators,” it added.
