BEIRUT: Ten people including schoolchildren were wounded Wednesday in an explosion in the Palestinian Camp of Nahr al-Bared in north Lebanon, security sources told The Daily Star.

Preliminary investigations revealed that children were playing with a bomb left over from the 2007 clashes, between the Lebanese Army and fighters from Fatah al-Islam in the camp, when it exploded, the sources said.

Three teachers and seven children were wounded.

A member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Abu Louay Arkan, hoped for a speedy recovery for the wounded that he visited at Al-Khayr Hospital in Minyeh.

He urged for renewed efforts in the reconstruction of Nahr al-Bared, which would allow for the return of residents and prevent similar incidents from taking place.
