Syrian teen in Beirut hospital after self-immolation attempt

BEIRUT: A Syrian teen was hospitalized in Beirut overnight after setting himself on fire due to lack of money, a security source said Monday.

The source told The Daily Star that the 19-year-old, A. Y, was sent to Beirut’s Geitawi Hospital late Sunday after attempted self-immolation at Barbour public square in Corniche Mazraa.

A doctor at the hospital said Youssef suffered third-degree burns.

It was not immediately clear whether the teenager was a Syrian refugee.
