Head of Bekaa anti-drug office held for blackmail

BEIRUT: The head of an anti-drug office in the Bekaa was detained this week on suspicion of blackmailing a detained foreign national, security sources told The Daily Star Friday.

The sources said that the official was detained for three days before being released, as the authorities investigated his involvement in the matter.

They said that police personnel, accompanied by a judge, raided the anti-drug office said and detained its head.

The sources said the official was involved in trying to blackmail a Qatari national and his Lebanese wife, in a bid to obtain $25,000 from them.
