BEIRUT: Pope Benedict XVI appointed Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai as a member of three pontifical bodies, the National News Agency reported Friday.
Rai was appointed to the Pastoral Care Council of Migrants and Itinerant People. He was also appointed as a member of the Supreme Tribunal of the Papal Signature, as well as the Congregation of Oriental Churches.
The appointment decree was signed by the Vatican’s Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone on Jan. 15. Rai was recently appointed a cardinal of the Catholic church.
