BEIRUT: The preliminary hearings for some 300 suspected Islamist inmates at Roumieh prison will begin Feb. 8, Judge Jean Fahed announced Monday.
Judicial sources said Friday’s session would take place at Beirut’s Justice Palace.
The session was scheduled for Friday after Fahed, who heads the Higher Judicial Council, said the files of the cases of each of the accused Fatah al-Islam prisoners were distributed to relevant authorities.
The men will be tried for their alleged involvement in the 2007 battle with the Lebanese Army in the northern Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared.
