BEIRUT: Speaker Nabih Berri addressed international and regional parliamentarians and urged them to take a clear and firm stance against Israeli’s aggression toward Syria, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Israel carried out an airstrike on a military target inside Syria a few days ago, but the Syrian army denied reports that the strike hit an arms convoy on its way to Lebanon.

Berri asked that the MPs show solidarity with Syria and support the efforts to maintain its stability and preserve the unity of its territories, people and institutions.

“This aggression aims at the further destabilization of Syria and attempts to curb the recent international and regional efforts to reach a political solution to end the crisis,” he added.

Berri made his remarks in a letter addressed to the General of the Arab Parliamentary Union Fahd Ali al-Rashid, head of the EU Parliament Martin Schulz and other international and regional representatives of parliamentary bodies.
