BEIRUT: A man was killed and another was wounded Wednesday in a shootout sparked by a quarrel between van drivers near Tripoli, north Lebanon.
Security sources, speaking to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said the clash broke out at 9 a.m. in the Bahsas area at the entrance of the northern city of Tripoli.
The sources identified the casualties as Omar Nimra, who died shortly after he arrived at Salam hospital in Tripoli, and Mahmoud Qarnaqout.
Qarnaqout was taken to Haikaliyeh hospital south of Tripoli.
Separately, Lebanese Army explosive experts safely defused two hand grenades found on the side of Tripoli’s Maarad Street Wednesday.
