A+ A-

BEIRUT: A fire ripped through a jewelry store in Beirut Friday, security sources said.

They said the fire, which broke out at 7:15 a.m. at Zoghaib jewelry store on the ground floor of the Sofil Center in Ashrafieh, was contained shortly afterwards.

The sources told The Daily Star the fire damaged the walls of the shop.

They said firefighters were able to salvage jewelry from the store. They handed boxes full of jewelry, diamonds and cash to police who opened an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
