Health Ministry places ban on prenatal vitamin
A+ A-

BEIRUT: The Health Ministry has ordered a temporary ban on the prenatal vitamin, Ferro Sanol Gyn 20, a statement issued by the ministry said Friday.

It added that the withdrawal of the folic acid and iron supplement from the market was a precautionary measure, while technicians at the ministry conduct tests to ensure the safety of the drug, according to the National News Agency.

The order comes more than two months after GlaxoSmithKline notified the Lebanese importer of Ferro Sanol Gyn 20, Abela Freres SAL, that it was voluntarily withdrawing the product from the market because irregularities were observed during routine stability testing of the capsule following 48 months of storage.

The medication is taken for the duration of pregnancy to protect against anemia and folic acid deficiency.
