BEIRUT: Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai reiterated his call for rival political parties in Lebanon to engage in dialogue, the state-run National News Agency reported Tuesday.
Speaking to a delegation from the Women’s League at AUB, Rai stressed the need to end divisions in the country.
“The disputes among the politicians and their divisions disrupt economic activity in the country ... that’s why we are in dire need of unity among Lebanese people and [we need to] pull ourselves out of the continuous confrontations,” he added.
Rai received a delegation of Christian and Druze residents from the Chouf village of Brih accompanied by Minister of the Displaced Alaeddine Terro.
The delegation thanked Rai for his “immense contribution in the achievement of the reconciliation and the return of the [Civil War] displaced people to their homes.”
