Judge to bow out of Samaha case over family ties
A+ A-

BEIRUT: The head of the Criminal Appeals Court, Judge Joseph Samaha, is likely to recuse himself from the case of former Minister Michel Samaha because the two men are related, the National News Agency reported Friday.

Military Investigative Judge Riad Abu Ghayda issued an indictment against former Information Minister Michel Samaha and Syrian Gen. Ali Mamlouk Wednesday, requesting the death penalty for both men.

Samaha, a longtime ally of the Syrian leadership, was arrested by the Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch last year on charges of transporting explosives from Syria and plotting terror attacks in Lebanon.
