BEIRUT: A German teenager escaped his attackers on Lebanon’s northbound highway Monday when he jumped out of the window of the bus he was travelling on, security sources told The Daily Star Tuesday.
The boy, 17, was taking the minibus from Nahr Ibrahim to Beirut when he argued with the driver about the LL5,000 charge, the sources said.
The boy spoke to the driver in broken Arabic telling him that the usual fee is LL3,000 instead of LL5,000.
When asked about his nationality, the boy claimed he was American.
The taxi driver then parked the vehicle and pulled out a knife as he walked in the direction of the boy, prompting the young man to jump out of the window to escape.
He broke his shoulder and will undergo surgery Wednesday.
