Shooting, muggings top police reports
A+ A-

BEIRUT: A shooting in the Bekaa Valley, muggings and thefts throughout the country and the arrests of suspects with outstanding warrants topped Tuesday’s police reports.

Ziad Sawwan was admitted to Chtaura Hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head, while Ghassan Jdou was admitted to a hospital in the Bekaa Valley after being shot in the shoulder, the National News Agency reported. Their injuries were attributed to a “personal” dispute that occurred in Saadnayel.

In the Beirut neighborhood of Jnah, two men on a motorcycle mugged Rashid Othman and stole his wallet and mobile phone, police sources said. Similarly, two men threatened Mohammad Hilal with a knife in Furn al-Shubbak before robbing him of his wallet and mobile phone. The suspects fled the scene on their motorcycles.

In the Beirut neighborhood of al-Tariq al-Jadideh three men on a motorcycle mugged Syrians Bashar Khodr and Mohammad al-Ali and robbed them at gunpoint of their wallets, which included an unspecified amount of money, their identity cards and mobile phones before fleeing the scene.

Thieves broke into the home of Hasan Assi in the Akkar village of Massoudieh and stole LL 9 million. In the town of Zaarir in Hadath Baalbek, thieves stole approximately 500 meters of cables from the public electricity network, causing a blackout in the region.

Police apprehended various suspects with outstanding warrants in the Beirut area. In Sin al-Fil, police chased two young men riding an unregistered motorcycle and arrested them for committing several thefts in the area.

In Burj Hammoud, the ISF’s Information Branch arrested a man on an outstanding warrant related to his suspected involvement in incidents of theft, fraud, forgery and impersonating a policeman.
