Police officer wounded in Bekaa in arrest attempt

BEIRUT: A police officer suffered serious wounds Wednesday after attempting to arrest a wanted man in the Bekaa village of Ain Ata.

The National News Agency reported that when Rashaya police chief Sgt. Maj. Hussam Qasab was attempting to arrest Raef Ahmad Ghazali, the latter allegedly hit the victim on his head with an axe.

Qasab was transported to the Lebanese French Hospital in Zahle where he is undergoing surgery. Ghazali was shot in the feet by the police and was taken to a public hospital in Rashaya.
