BEIRUT: Teachers and public servants will stage a one-day strike Wednesday to protest against delays in endorsing a series of wage and benefits demands.
The Union Coordination Committee, which represents both teachers and civil servants, met Friday to endorse the strike calls made earlier this week from various branches of the group around the country.
The UCC said that public and private schools, as well as government offices, will observe Wednesday’s strike.
The UCC is demanding that the government move the draft law in urgent fashion to Parliament for endorsement.
The UCC rejects the government’s decision to pay a salary hike in installments, and also has demands related to the treatment of retired teachers under the legislation and the exact calculation of pay grades.
The UCC said it would also stage a one-day strike on Jan. 23, and is threatening further action next month if its demands aren’t met.
