SIDON, Lebanon: Security forces cordoned off an area near the Civil Defense Sunday in Sidon after the discovery of objects that were suspected to be bombs, but turned out not to hold any explosives.

A Sidon resident jogging near the Civil Defense headquarters the coastal city spotted a small wired box beside a truck belonging to the firefighting team and another beside a water pump.

Security forces then cordoned off the area while a military expert examined the objects which did not contain any explosive material.

The incident comes hours before planned sit-ins by Salafist Sheikh Ahmad Assir in the city’s four main squares to protest Hezbollah’s arms.
