Spate of robberies plague parts of Lebanon

BEIRUT: Thieves got away with more than $100,000 worth of jewelry, equipment and cash in seven separate robberies across Lebanon overnight, police said Monday.

They said in Dora, Greater Beirut, thieves made away with $20,000 worth of computer sets and spare parts from Nadim Nakhleh’s shop. They used a fake key, according to a police report.

It also said that in the Beirut neighborhood of Ain al-Rummaneh, burglars broke into Abdallah Sleiman al-Usta’s house and stole $4,000 in cash as well as jewelry and a 9-mm Herstal pistol.

In the Metn region, north of Beirut, thieves broke into George Asaad Mouawad’s house in Fanar and stole cash in addition to over $6,500 worth of jewelry.

In east Lebanon, thugs forced their way into a warehouse in Bar Elias and stole electrical equipment worth more than $6,500.

In the Aley district of Mount Lebanon, thieves broke into Najib Shehayeb’s mobile store in Ain Hala and made away with more than $13,000 worth of cell phones.

In Abi Samra, north Lebanon, muggers broke into Ahmad Qassem al-Bosh’s house and stole $5,000 worth of jewelry.

Also in the Kahf al-Malloul neighborhood north of the country thieves broke into Bassam Nehmeh Ayyoub’s residence and stole hunting equipment and gas canisters worth more than $3,000.

Police have yet to determine whether the robberies are linked.
