BEIRUT: Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour Tuesday invited the country to contact his ministry’s hotline to alert them to cases of elderly people without carers.

Speaking at the inauguration of a nursing home in Aramoun, Abu Faour said: “The ministry doesn’t have enough survey teams to check every region in Lebanon and so I ask all the Lebanese to inform us by calling the ministry hotline, 1714, if any elderly person has no shelter or no one to provide for them.”

Abu Faour added: “Caring for the elderly is part of preserving our national dignity and we [at the Social Affairs Ministry] have the capabilities to provide shelter for them ... This is our responsibility and the responsibility of our diverse society, which represents all sects and political orientations in Lebanon.”

He also called for the development of the regions that constitute poverty belts around cities.
