BEIRUT: Authorities foiled Wednesday an escape plot by two “dangerous” inmates at a prison in Aley, Mount Lebanon, security sources said.

The sources, who spoke to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said the jailbreak was foiled after the police was tipped off on the plot by prisoners Saleh Mazloum and Hussein Mazloum.

The source said the guard who helped plan the escape was also arrested.

They said members of the police unit in charge of the prison’s security confiscated two cellular phones and sharp tools in the possession of the Mazloums.

Both prisoners are charged with murder.
