BEIRUT: Shiite scholar Sayyed Ali Fadlallah denounced the bombing that targeted the University of Aleppo Wednesday, the National News Agency reported.

“The massacre at the University of Aleppo against displaced people and the students is a major crime, and it is part of the systematic destruction of the Syrian community including all its cultural, scientific and educational institutions,” Fadlallah said.

“We ask the Syrian people who are witnessing this tragedy not to surrender in the face of this new kind of aggression.”

Fadlallah asked Syrian politicians to “rise to the challenge and launch a dialogue to prevent those who are seeking the destruction of Syria’s people, army and strategic role from fulfilling their mission.”

He added that Israel was the biggest benefactor [of the Syrian conflict] and urged global humanitarian support for the crisis.
