BEIRUT: A 24-year-old man tore down a statue of Virgin Mary in Beirut Tuesday, security sources told The Daily Star.

Mohammad Ahmad al-Khatib was likely to be intoxicated when he tore down the statute in the Saydeh neighborhood of Sin al-Fil, the sources said.

Security forces arrested Khatib and he is currently under investigation.
