Majdalani delivers Yazigi plea to free two bishops

BEIRUT: Greek Orthodox Patriarch John X Yazigi issued a plea last week for the safe release of two bishops, Paul Yazigi and Youhanna Ibrahim, kidnapped in Syria earlier this year.

Yazigi’s plea was delivered in a speech given by Orthodox Future MP Atef Majdalani on his behalf at the 20th general assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy in Athens over the weekend.

Yazigi also called for restoring civil peace and respect for human rights in the Arab world.

In his own speech, Majdalani called for measures to curb the expulsion of Christians from Arab countries, calling for “working hand-in-hand with our partners, the moderate Muslims, to confront this catastrophe that threatens to change the region and its future.”
