BEIRUT: The Internal Security Forces have advised citizens against the excessive use of celebratory fireworks, warning that they can cause “disturbance and fear among the citizens and children.”
The statement added: “Fireworks can also cause injuries that lead to permanent disability as well as damage to properties and forests.”
Fireworks are popularly used to mark religious and sporting events, good exam results and weddings.
The ISF statement said the use of fireworks had led to disagreements between neighbors that had escalated into armed clashes.
A man was killed and two others wounded Thursday in such a clash in the Akkar town of Bibnine.
The incident occurred after a dispute arose between neighboring members of the Masri family over a household setting off fireworks and escalated into a gunfight.
The ISF has asked citizens to replace fireworks with more “civil” celebratory practices.
