Jemo’s widow denies involvement in his death
A+ A-

BEIRUT: The wife of a pro-Syrian regime official who was shot dead earlier this week in south Lebanon denied playing any role in her husband’s death, after a probe revealed a personal dispute may have been behind the crime.

“I’ve been with my husband for over 20 years,” Siham Younes, currently in Syria for her husband’s funeral, told Al-Jadeed television Friday.

“Whoever did this should be punished, whether it is my brother or my nephew,” she added, referring to two suspects in the case.

The murder of media figure Mohammad Jemo was initially linked to the conflict in Syria but the Army said Thursday there were no political motives behind the incident.

Lebanon has asked Syrian authorities to arrest Younes, sources told The Daily Star.

Asked whether she would return to Lebanon, Younes said the decision was up to her in-laws.
