Beirut promises LL5 mln per family in Oct. blast
A+ A-

BEIRUT: Families that had properties damaged by a car bomb in Ashrafieh last year will be compensated LL5 million, the municipality of Beirut announced Thursday.

Following a meeting headed by Beirut Mayor Bilal Hamad, the municipality agreed to compensate for damage to some homes and shops on the streets adjacent to where the explosion took place.

Media reports said that a number of municipal members walked out of the meeting after disagreeing with the majority’s decision to reduce the sum from LL11 million to LL5 million per family.

The municipality also agreed to compensate families in the neighborhood al-Tariq al-Jadideh who incurred damages during street clashes last May.
