BEIRUT: An Italian man and a Filipina were robbed of cash and documents in two separate incidents overnight in the Metn district north of Beirut, security sources said Monday.
The sources said Samoyel Franico Kovano, 34, was driving a rented car in Mkalles late Sunday when two gunmen intercepted him and held him at gunpoint.
The gunmen threatened to kill the Italian citizen unless he gave them all the money on him, added the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Kovano lodged a complaint with the local police station.
In nearby Sad al-Bouchrieh, a Filipina also filed a complaint with the police station after two thieves robbed her overnight.
Elisa Valanteno Fiscondi said the muggers brandished knives and threatened to kill her unless she gave them everything she had on her – wallet that contained money and identity papers, and a cell phone.
Security forces are hunting the robbers after Kovano and Fiscondi gave descriptions of them, the sources added.
