BEIRUT: The Army’s Intelligence Branch detained two Syrians for blackmailing a Lebanese woman and threatening to kidnap her and her family, the military said in a statement Wednesday.

The directorate general of intelligence said it “detained two Syrians, Mohammad Saadoun Jred and Ahmad Abdel-Jaleel al-Saleh, in al-Qibbah in Tripoli,” on March 10 after receiving information that the wife of a businessman living abroad had been blackmailed and threatened with kidnapping.

“[The two] confessed to calling the citizen and threatening to abduct her along with her children, kill them and blow up their house if they don't pay $100,000,” the statement added.

They were referred to the judiciary.
