BAALBEK, Lebanon: The Lebanese Army raided several locations in the eastern area of Masharih al-Qaa Thursday, days after Syrian rebels completely seized the region across the border, security sources told The Daily Star.
One source said the Free Syrian Army had carried out a military operation and taken full control of the area in Syria three days ago with the aim of facilitating the transfer of arms and gunmen across the border with Lebanon.
The Lebanese Army has increased its presence in the eastern area and raided specific locations.
The sources speculated that the Army may have acted upon information about the presence of illegal activity in the area.
Masharih al-Qaa has been hit by shells on several occasions as a result of heavy clashes between government forces and rebels inside Syria.
