BEIRUT: The Lebanese Forces said in a statement Tuesday that a March 8 coalition rally Monday that was organized in support of Egyptian anti-government protesters was aimed at destabilizing Egypt in favor of a regional agenda. “The Lebanese observed with great surprise the rally that was held by the ‘Thank You Syria’ group in order to defame the Arab Republic of Egypt and incite the Egyptians against each other,” said the statement. The LF expressed surprise that the March 8 coalition, which it said was “parasitical to all humanitarian concepts and democratic values … has thanked Syria, ignoring thousands of Syrian political detainees in Syrian prisons and the suppression of freedoms and the undermining of democratic life in it along with [ignoring] hundreds of detained and missing Lebanese in Syrian prisons.” During the rally in Beirut Monday, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised address that the Egyptian popular uprising would change the face of the region.
