BEIRUT: The Secondary Teacher’s Syndicate (LPESPL) met at the Education Ministry over the weekend to set correction standards and started correcting Grade 9 official exams, reneging on earlier threats to boycott grading. Last Tuesday, members of the syndicate held a sit-in near the Education and Higher Education Ministry urging all teachers to refrain from correcting or setting standards of correction for Grade 9 official exams, known as Brevet exams.
In a joint statement issued with the Intermediary Teacher’s Syndicate and other educational bodies, LPESPL said on Friday the reversal of its decision came after Education Minister Hassan Mneimneh vowed to discuss their demands for promotions in Cabinet. The statement also attributed LPESPL’s move to the fact that the Cabinet had “urged Mneimneh to carry on his deliberations with the teachers, something we deemed as a positive signal from the Cabinet.”
