DOHA: Qatar revealed for the first time Wednesday that hundreds of its soldiers had fought alongside Libyans in their battle to topple longtime despot Moammar Gadhafi.

"We were among them and the numbers of Qataris on ground were hundreds in every region," said Qatari chief of staff Maj. Gen. Hamad bin Ali al-Atiya.

The announcement marks the first time that Qatar has acknowledged it had military boots on the ground in Libya.

Previously the gas-rich country said it had only lent the support of its air force to NATO-led operations to protect civilians during the eight-month uprising, which ended when Gadhafi was felled with a bullet to the head after being captured last week.

An AFP story: another e.g. of propaganda as journalism. So why does Lebanese media not gloss this as such? What this story tells us is that Qatar lied about its role in Libya. Qatar even less than NATO has got no legal right to patrol Libyan airspace. Did Ban Ki-moon give them permission? …

US Predator drone fired a hellfire missile at convoy carrying Gaddafi, who was then captured by Anti Gaddafi forces.Gaddafi who was captured alive, should have been treated as prisoner of war and put on trial. But Gaddafi was indeed killed in the back of a truck. Killing of Gaddafi really raise some questions about the command and discipline of the anti- Gaddafi forces and what Libya is going to be like in future under the control of anti- Gaddafi forces.
