BEIRUT: Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said over the weekend he was the target of at least two assassination attempts and that his colleague, MP George Adwan, also faced similar risks.
“We have clear-cut information that another MP in the Lebanese Forces is threatened with an assassination attempt and he is our colleague George Adwan,” MP Antoine Zahra told MTV station in an interview Saturday.
“Security measures are being taken,” he added.
Zahra said he was also the target of at least two assassination attempts.
“There were at least two attempts in the most recent period ... this is why [LF chief] Samir Geagea insisted that my permanent residence be at Maarab,” he said.
Several alleged assassination attempts against Lebanese politicians and figures in recent months have jolted Lebanon, which is already suffering from the impact of developments in neighboring Syria along its borders.
In April, Geagea said he had escaped an assassination attempt when shots were fired at his residence in Maarab. Months later, two detonators were found in an elevator at an office building in Beirut belonging to MP Butros Harb, in another alleged assassination attempt.
On Saturday, Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun said he was the target of an assassination attempt in an incident earlier in the day.
