KHARTOUM: Sudan's official Radio Omdurman says two Sudanese nationals detained at Guantanamo Bay have arrived home after their release from the U.S.-run facility in Cuba.
It said Noor Othman Mohammed and Ibrahim Idris arrived in Khartoum aboard a U.S. military plane on Thursday.
Mohammed pleaded guilty in February 2011 to terrorism offenses in a plea deal that spared him the possibility of a life sentence. He was sentenced to 14 years with all but 34 months suspended.
Idris is mentally ill and has spent much of his 11 years at Guantanamo in psychiatric treatment. A federal judge ordered his release after the U.S. dropped its opposition in October.
The official Sudan News Agency quoted the two as saying they were grateful for the Sudanese government's efforts to secure their release.
