RABAT: Morocco's official human rights group has issued a report acknowledging that the security forces have committed abuses against migrants and recommending a new immigration policy of integration backed by international funding.
King Mohammed VI has publicly supported the idea of an international policy to deal with the large numbers of migrants - overwhelmingly from sub-Saharan Africa - who have been using Morocco as a stepping stone to Europe.
On Tuesday, the U.N. office also applauded the report's findings.
At Europe's behest, Morocco has moved against communities of migrants who are seeking to cross the Mediterranean into Europe or force their way into Spanish enclaves on the Moroccan coast. Human rights groups, however, have repeatedly criticized Morocco for its treatment of migrants.
