Assad reappoints Halqi as prime minister

BEIRUT: Syrian President Bashar Assad has reappointed Wael Halqi as prime minister and asked him to form a Cabinet, state media reported Sunday.

Assad was sworn in for a new term as president last month, requiring him to form a new government. Halqi was appointed in 2012 after his predecessor, Riad Hijab, fled Syria to join the opposition.

Assad had asked Halqi to form a new government, state media reported.
