BEIRUT: Damascus University is offering Kurdish language courses with the beginning of the new academic term, according to the internal opposition National Coordination Body.
The NCB’s website said Monday copies of the announcement of the new offering were highly visible in a number of university buildings, although this contradicts legislation enacted over the last decade, limiting language instruction to foreign, “non-local” languages, the NCB said.
The group has asked the authorities to amend the law as the restriction has been ignored with the teaching of Syriac and Armenian.
