PM tours Damascus truce neighborhood

BEIRUT: Syria’s prime minister and several members of his Cabinet toured the neighborhood of Barzeh in Damascus following a recently concluded truce between the regime and rebels.

State news agency SANA said Thursday that Wael Halqi, along with the ministers of electricity, local government and health and the governor of the Damascus, visited Barzeh to inspect progress on repair and reconstruction works.

Halqi said “thousands” of people have returned to their homes in the northeast Damascus neighborhood, thanks to national reconciliation efforts.

“The government is cooperating with the international community to [apply] Barzeh’s experience with national reconciliation in all areas of the country,” Halqi said.
