OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: Hamas has posted a Hebrew version of one of its battle songs in the latest act of psychological warfare accompanying the physical conflict with Israel.
The original Arabic version of “Shake Israel’s Security” has long been a popular anthem of the Islamist movement’s military wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades.
The Hebrew translation on the brigades’ YouTube site proclaims to a dramatic orchestral accompaniment: “Wipe out all the Zionists ... burn soldiers and their bases.”
“Exterminate the cockroach nest, expel all the Zionists,” it exhorts.
The video has received more than 50,000 views since it was posted on Thursday.
Airstrikes on the coastal territory claimed their 100th Palestinian life Friday, as Hamas pounded central Israel with rockets, sending thousands fleeing into bomb shelters.
“They are startled by death and hide behind walls and protection,” the brigades’ song jibes. “Rain upon them many rockets. Make their world into a horror.”
Earlier in this week, the Brigades produced two shorter, one-minute videos, in Hebrew.
One, which was subtitled in English, was addressed to residents of the city of Beersheba, advising them to flee a coming onslaught of rockets.
The other, for settlers in the West Bank, delivered a similar message, and featured footage of a Palestinian welder putting the finishing touches on a rocket in a dark warehouse.
Also, bogus messages purporting to come from mainstream Israeli media announced 25 dead in a rocket attack on Haifa, where there have so far been no confirmed hits.
Israel also plays the psy-ops game, regularly hacking into Gaza radio broadcasts and sending mass SMS messages to phone subscribers warning that Hamas is leading them to disaster.
