Kerry planning Middle East trip 'very shortly'

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday that he is planning to head "very shortly" to the Middle East, amid mounting efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

"I am planning to go and probably very shortly," the top US diplomat told CBS television's "Face the Nation," adding he was due to speak with President Barack Obama on Sunday and "it may be that he'll ask me to leave immediately."
