BEIRUT: A video posted on YouTube purports to show a shell striking a man as he and his friend exchange morning pleasantries in a village in Deir al-Zor province.
The video shows a man whom anti-regime activists identified as Ibrahim Abboud al-Hussein, from the village of Albu Omar, speaking to the cameraman about the crop of okra he has planted next to his house.
The man takes a few steps around the side of the home and takes the camera from his friend, who then steps into the frame.
A few seconds later, the man looks into the sky and the sound of what appears to be a tank-fired artillery is heard, and the shell strikes the men shortly afterward.
Opposition media said the unnamed survivor was critically wounded in the incident, while Hussein was killed.
The activists said the town was a stronghold of insurgent activity and had seen dozens of its residents killed in clashes with regime forces.
The video was posted to YouTube Friday and has been seen by more than 30,000 people.
