U.S. President Donald Trump's pick for ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, donated funds to an organization that buys land in the "Muslim quarter" of Jerusalem's Old City to settle Jews, daily Haaretz reported Tuesday. However, according to Haaretz, Friedman also donated to Ateret Cohanim, a right-wing organization that buys land in occupied East Jerusalem in order to create a "Jewish presence" there.Bernie Hoenig, founder of Ateret Cohanim's U.S. funding arm, confirmed that Friedman was a doner. However, Hoenig said he had seen Friedman at "at least one, maybe two" of Ateret Cohanim's yearly fundraising galas in New York.
