A United Nations agency published a report Wednesday accusing Israel of discriminating against the Palestinian people by imposing an apartheid regime. The report recommends further advocacy by other U.N. bodies and civil society. It also calls on member states to implement measures that would render Israel accountable to its crimes. Israel's response was not unexpected by the authors of the report, who in the introduction were keen to point out that the norms rejecting apartheid regimes are the very same international laws and customs that condemn anti-Semitism.U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters in New York that the report was published without any prior consultation with the U.N. secretariat.
