The United States said Friday it will open its embassy to Israel in occupied Jerusalem in May, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Israel's creation, a move the Palestinian leadership slammed as "a provocation to Arabs".The founding of Israel seven decades ago on May 14, 1948, is mourned by Palestinians as the Nakba, or "catastrophe," when an estimated 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes in the war surrounding Israel's creation.U.S. President Donald Trump announced last December that the U.S. recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, infuriating even Washington's Arab allies and dismaying Palestinians who want the eastern part of the city as their capital.Palestinian health officials say at least 20 Palestinians, most of them in Gaza, have been killed in protests against Trump's decision since the Dec. 6 announcement.
