Lebanon to file complaint against Israel over border incident
Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour has described last year’s agreement between Israel and Cyprus to demarcate the controversial Israeli maritime borders as a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour has described last year’s agreement between Israel and Cyprus to demarcate the controversial Israeli maritime borders as a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.

BEIRUT: Lebanon will file a complaint Wednesday against Israel at the U.N. for violating Security Council Resolution 1701 over the border incident between the two countries earlier this week, Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said, reported the National New Agency Tuesday.

“Lebanon will present tomorrow [Wednesday], via its delegation at the U.N., a complaint against Israel for violating Resolution 1701 when its troops stepped into Lebanese territory in the Wazzani area yesterday,” Mansour told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

The Lebanese Army engaged in a brief confrontation with Israeli soldiers shortly after dawn Monday when an Israeli army convoy crossed the Blue Line at Wazzani into Lebanon. The fight did not lead to any casualties.

UNSCR 1701 ended the 2006 July-August war between Lebanon and Israel and extended the mandate of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon, which monitors a cease-fire between the two countries.

According to a statement released Monday by the Directorate General of the Army, Israeli soldiers walked 70 meters into Lebanese territories, prompting the Lebanese Army to confront the soldiers. An exchange of fire followed, until the Israeli soldiers withdrew.

File a complaint? Just how many complaints has Lebanon filed with the UN since Israel's inception? thousands, and yet has the UN or anyone in the world done anything to Israel? or has Israel ceased its violations? No and NO. I am actulay disapointed with the Lebanese Army that they did not shoot to kill. They must have dedicated snipers that will shoot to kill anytime these pigs violated Lebanese territories. The only language that the Israelis know is force. And I think a shoot to kill is not enough, the Lebanese should take it a step further, when Israel's soldiers violate Lebanese land, the Lebanese Army should not only shoot at them but they should shell them as well deap inside the border, because Israel would do the same if the Lebanese soldiers did this. Furthermore, I like to add, that had they not been defeated by the resistance they would have done more than returned fire, Israel would have sent out its attack F16 to bomb the Army's posts. But now they are running scared and will not dare to escalte, 2006 taught them a lesson.

Good move. I'm sure the UN will put an end to this, just like the implementation of UN Resolution 425, 338, 242, etc...
