Lebanon recognizes Libya's National Transitional Council

BEIRUT: Lebanon recognized Libya’s National Transition Council during its cabinet session Tuesday.

The 30-member government recognized the Libyan body at a session held in Beiteddine, the president’s summer residency, in the Chouf.

The NTC, made up of opponents of Libyan strongman Col. Moammar Gadhafi, has gained recognition by Western nations and other countries as the legitimate authority in Libya until an interim authority is in place.

The move comes as rebel forces stormed Gadhafi's Bab al-Aziziya compound and headquarters in Tripoli.
