Kahwagi calls for caution and readiness

BEIRUT: Lebanese Army commander General Jean Kahwagi called for caution and readiness in light of the developments taking place throughout the Arab world, the state-run National News Agency reported Sunday.

During an iftar banquet hosted by Kahwagi in Jounieh’s military complex Saturday, the army commander said recent developments urge our military and security institutions to combine their efforts in the face of any potential fallout.

According to the NNA, Kahwagi called for full cooperation between security institutions to be on full readiness to protect the national stability.

“The path to security and stability is a national requirement and it is unacceptable to [allow it to] loosen under any pretext or headline,” Kahwagi added.

March 14 MPs criticized some officers of the Lebanese Army intelligence unit last week for arresting some Lebanese based on their political affiliations.

Kahwagi, meanwhile, voiced hope that the holy month of Ramadan would be an opportunity for Lebanese to unify their ranks.
