BEIRUT: Iranian Ambassador Ghadanfar Ruknabadi met Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt Thursday and renewed his country’s invitation to him to visit Tehran.
Ruknabadi said he had discussed with Jumblatt regional and global developments in addition to ties between Lebanon and Iran.
The meeting at Jumblatt’s resident in Clemenceau, Beirut, was attended by PSP Secretary-General Zafer Nasser, the party’s deputy foreign affairs official Doreid Yaghi and PSP spokesman Rami Rayyes.
Asked about Iran’s official invitation to Jumblatt, Ruknabadi said: “This is an open invitation and we hope it will take place soon.”
Last year, Ruknabadi extended an official invitation from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Jumblatt to visit Tehran.
